Movies or books?
Think of your favorite movie based on a book, and then tell us which you liked better and why. Please address cases where you have seen/read both, or at least know about them from reputable sources.
If you want, you can go with your favorite X-number of movies based on books, evaluate them individually, and use that for a basis.
EDIT: If it depends, what does it depend on?

Re: Movies or books?
You just asked the single most difficult question possible for me xD But I rise to the challenge!
Favorite book/Movie: "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. I really enjoyed both the book and the movies. I belive like the books the most because of all the details that the movies lacked. Still, cause the story was so good, I couldnt help love the movies as well.
I guess I voted depends, because wich one is my favorite depends on wich one im currently enjoying. Really a favorite among my books and movies.
Then again, "The Trollhunter" was good too... and made in Norway...

LotR 1, 2, 3, The Hobbit, both films and books rule my world forever.
Harry Potter? Mmm, maybe.

Re: Movies or books?
The two cases where I have seen both book and movie (at least the two that come right to mind) are The Hobbit and The Chronicles of Narnia.
On The Hobbit (animated movie) I liked the book better. The movie was okay in and of itself, but the animation wasn't that great (though certainly intricate) and they didn't do the plot justice.
Chronicles of Narnia, I've only seen the first two. The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe was awesome in both. The movie, I think, really did a good job of holding to the book, and the battle was epic.
Prince Caspian, not so much. Wild fight scenes, yes, but they cut out half the story. And one of the moral points of the book, them not allying with minotaurs or anything like that, was kind of left out.
So all in all, books have my vote. But I do enjoy movies.

Yeah. The animation wasn't very good, but the music, the landscapes...
Chrocicles of Narnia... interesting books, I didn't like the movies much, all three of them because they caonverted fairy tales into epic action films.

Re: Movies or books?
Well let's face it, the books were meant, in part, to be an adventure. But that said, they did leave out a great deal of the fun in the first two (I've heard they did better with the third, but I haven't seen it yet).
Re: Movies or books?
Yeah. But I've read a translation in Spanish, and long time ago... dunno, really.
Re: Movies or books?
Books usually, though the movies usually get to the point. So its kinda both for me.

Re: Movies or books?
Well, for the sake of debate, one must ask what the point is. If it's conveying the characters' inner personalities, their real hearts, then I think books tend to be clearer.
Re: Movies or books?
Books are made to hold meaning for the writer and reader, movies are made to win awards and make money. Thats how I see it.

Re: Movies or books?
For me, it really just depends not only on the movie/book, but also the genre. I have a much easier time reading fantasy than seeing it on-screen, but then again, I am split 50/50 when it comes to non-fiction, while on the other hand I much prefer WATCHING sci-fi rather than read it.
Re: Movies or books?
I chose movies because they have this effect on me like when i see them with my eyes it makes them so real. Example The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of The Rings(actually i haven´t read the books of the Lord of the Rings so that doesn´t count but still i like movies more than books but I like books too).
