The Great Tribunal Fiasco Empty The Great Tribunal Fiasco

Since just about everyone here came from Balto Source, we probably all know something about the fiasco recently involving the tribunals, in which two members were driven from the site for sketchy reasons.

Now, I personally think it was pretty nonsensical when all's said and done. The voting was cut way too short, and rather "conveniently" at a time when mob cries were beginning to give way to reason. So I'm going to open this topic with one goal: to MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN HERE.

Ordinarily, as webmaster I could pretty much make the rules. But I'm opening the floor for anyone who wishes to make their voice heard, not concerning policy on Balto Source - that's past, and I'm willing to play the ball from where it lies. But let's learn from mistakes made their and come up with some ways to keep it from happeneing here. Anyone?

I tried to convey this on AS, but ill say it here to, in shortned words of course.

Dont take things too seriously. Its easier to say things you normaly wouldnt say in person when in front of a screen. So theres two stepsto my advice.

1. Seriously consider what you are about to post before you actualy do it. Try to predict how other may interpret it. Perhaps try to reformulate your words to avoid misunderstandings.

2. When you read something that makes you want to mae a rebutal, consider the fact that the poster most likely dont really mean what he/she said in an offensive way. Take everything with a pinch of salt as they say.

In even shorter words: Try to stay laid back about things. Most things arent worth the energy it takes to get upset.

Good idea. I think I'll put those in the rules.

Well, first, a really good text should go here, but after thinking a while, I'm just saying this, that I'm not posting it because it doesn't say nothing important, but easilly may drive to misunderstoods. So, as it was said, we have to learn from errors, and I hope there will be absolutely no case in which we'll have to go to this topic on a reason it was built for. And, if we do, then, it doesn't happen what has happened in BaltoSource. "have-an-iced-a".

Not sure I get what you mean, Romix, except for the last part. I fully intend to appoint only mods who are committed to the site's purpose and rules, rather than simply because everyone knows them or because they have been recommended (although recommendations will be considered). I have personally seen Balto Source suffer repeatedly at the hands of "Gumpuses," that is, mods who neither respect the rules set in place for everyone's good, nor respect those who do.

And one thing I have been thinking of, since I am convinced this was key to the downfall of Animation Source's tribunal, is that voting will not be cut short, and voters will be asked to express their opinions or at least inform me privately of their votes so that all the votes can be accounted for. As much as I prefer a secret ballot, in this context it leaves the door too wide open for multi-account maneuvers.
